Summary- Scully visits Doggett in the hospital.

Note- I didn’t much like the way the ep ended, so 
this takes place before the last scenes.

	Dana Scully practically ran down the hospital
corridor. She had to see Agent Doggett. She had just
gotten a phone call saying that Mulder had found him
and Agent Harrison. They were alive, but they were
both blind. Right now, anti venom treatments were
being administered. It had taken her an hour to get
there, and he should have already gotten a dosage. 

The results were supposedly almost immediate, and she 
was told that he wasn’t that bad to begin with. Maybe 
he had gotten his sight back. Mulder had told her not 
to come, as she should be resting, and Agent Doggett 
had told Mulder that he didn’t want her there. Fat 
chance.

	Scully made it in front of Doggett’s door when 
Mulder came walking out. He looked at Scully.

	“Weren’t you suppost to stay home?” he asked,
annoyed.

	“I have to see Agent Doggett.” she said, 
sounding slightly hyper. “I have to ask him 
something.” 

	Mulder sighed.

	“Fine. He’s not gonna be happy, but do what 
you want. I’m going to check on Agent Harrison, and 
then I’m coming to take you back home.” he said.

	“I drove my own car Mulder. I can get back by 
myself.

I’ll see you later.” she said. She was impatient for
Mulder to leave, as she wanted to see Doggett.
Finally, Mulder strode off down the hall. Scully took
a deep breath and opened the door.

	Scully walked into Agent Doggett’s hospital 
room. She felt her stomach constrict when she saw the 
cuts and bruises on his face and arms. She looked 
desperately into his cloudy, unseeing eyes for any 
sign of the shine of life she usually found there. 
She came up empty handed. Apparently the anti venom 
hadn’t worked yet.

	“You know, I coulda sworn that you said to me 
that you were goin' on maternity leave.”

	Doggett’s voice broke through her thoughts. 
Scully smiled and moved to the side of his bed and 
pulled up a chair.

	“Agent Doggett. How are you?” she asked.  

	“Oh, I’m just great. How are you?” he asked. 
He said the first part with sarcasm, but the second 
part was heartfelt. Scully smiled. Only he, at a time 
like this, would think to ask how she was.

	“I’m fine. You had me worried Agent Doggett.”

	Doggett gave a small smile. 

	“Sorry. Didn’t mean to do that.”

	Scully smiled as well. Apparently Doggett 
hadn’t forgotten his personality. Without thinking, 
she reached out and stroked his face. He jumped 
slightly, but soon relaxed back. He closed his eyes.

	“I’m gonna to guess that if you’re doin' this, 
I’m gonna die, right?” he asked. Scully laughed.

	“No. You’re going to be fine.” she pulled her 
hand away. To her suprise, Doggett reached out a hand 
and groped around until he found her face. He 
proceeded to do the same thing to her that she did to 
him. Scully found herself leaning into his hand.

	“Are you sure you’re ok Dana?” he asked 
softly. Scully blinked when he called her by her 
first name. No one did that anymore. It was kinda 
nice.

	“I think so.” she said. Doggett removed his 
hand from her face, only to move it as far as it 
would reach out.

	“C’mere.” he said softly. Scully leaned 
foreword and rested her head against his chest as he 
softly stroked her hair. A moment of silence passed. 
Once again, Doggett broke the atmosphere.

	“You know, this HAS to happen when I can’t see
anything.” he complained. Scully laughed, a little
embarrassed. She then remembered what she had come to
ask him.

	“Agent Doggett, when you get better, do you 
think you could do a favor for me?” she asked. 
Doggett made a face.

	“I don’t know. What’s the favor?”

	Scully took a deep breath and pulled away. She 
hoped Mulder wouldn’t be upset by this.

	“When I have the baby, I’m going to have it 
baptized. Will....will you be the godfather?”

	Doggett looked shocked.

	“Me? Be your kid’s godfather? Are you sure you 
want that?” he asked.	

	“I’m positive.”

	Doggett gave her his megawatt smile, the one 
she had only seen a couple of times.

	“You can count on it Agent Scully.” he said. 
She smiled and squeezed his hand.

	“Thank you Agen-- John.” she said. Doggett 
tilted his head at her.

	“My. You’re bein' informal. You wearin' 
clothes?” he asked.

	“WHAT?” Scully asked with a laugh.

	“I don’t know. Damn drugs. They make you do 
and say strange things.” he said. Scully laughed 
again. She couldn’t remember the last time she had 
actually laughed like this. Probably not for a long 
time.

	“Agent Scully, could you give me your face 
again?” Doggett suddenly burst out.

	“Umm, I think I’m going to ask them to lower 
your dosage.” Scully responded. Doggett grinned.

	“No. I’m serious. I have to do somethin’.”

	Scully looked at him. She pulled his hand up 
to her face. He sat up and leaned over. He felt 
around with his hand for a moment, then removed it. 
He pulled her foreword a little bit, and then 
stopped. Scully thought she saw his eyes actually 
meet with hers. Maybe it was an illusion.

	“Now remember Agent Scully, I’m on drugs.” he 
said. Scully nodded, which he felt. He slowly leaned 
over and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. He 
lingered for a moment, and then pulled away. He 
leaned back on the hospital bed and closed his eyes. 
Scully sat for a moment next to him, staring into 
space. She looked back at her partner. She wasn’t 
sure if he was asleep or not. She figured it was time 
for her to go, so she stood up. After a moment, she 
turned back to the bed.

She leaned down and gave Doggett a return kiss on the
cheek. She pulled away and, without looking back,
walked to the door. A millisecond before she left the
room, she turned back to Doggett. His eyes were open
and gleaming again. They locked with hers.

	“Hey Agent Scully.” he said. 

	“What Agent Doggett?” she replied. Doggett 
stretched and smiled.

	“I see you.”
